As an electrician working for domestic clients, you are required to either register for a recognised competent persons scheme for Approved Document P of the Building Regulations, or submit every installation to your local building control.

You will need three documents for your assessment day as follows. Each one contains a link to the relevant page where the document in question may be obtained. The documents are:

1. Approved Document P
Needed by all applicants
This document can be downloaded free of charge.

Needed by all applicants

Memorandum of guidance on the Electricity at Work Regulations available from the Health & Safety Executive internet shop @ 4.00

3. BS 7671
Needed by applicants applying as Level A ~ Full Scope (
Will allow you to self-certify all types of domestic installation work).
