The Government has set up several Competent Person Schemes which aim to give the consumer a degree of certainty that when they use a tradesman, that tradesman understands what is required to carry out the job in a responsible manner and that the various regulations connected with that activity have been followed.
The UK Trades Confederation works with two of the Part P Competent Person Scheme Operators, Elecsa and NICEIC, to help electricians, and those that need to make adjustments to electrics as part of a job, to meet the regulations.
Both existing and new members of the Confederation can receive help in gaining approval for Part P.
The Confederation can give you:
- Support with your application – this includes all the paper work to apply.
- Examples of the documentation you will need – for example a health and safety policy that you will need to have.
- A complaints procedure – a procedure needs to be in place to deal with complaints. The Confederation has this as part of its Code of Practice, which will include a complaints log.
- Consumer contract – provided for all members to use.
- Insurance Backed Guarantees – the Confederation works with QA National Warranties to give members the ability to provide Insurance Backed Guarantees.
